Homework for November 6th 2013 class

We have completed the following:

No chess class tomorrow . We will meet again on Friday November 8th.

1. We practiced more on two rook check mate scenarios. I have shown them how to keep king towards middle and attempt to attack the rook.
3. Scholar's mate(Defense and offence): Taught them on how to defend from players who do quick checkmates on others. Beginner players  always get checkmate quickly by the quick checkmate tricks (traps). The goal is to learn how to defend properly on those kind of scenarios.

Homework:

1. Keep doing two rook checkmates and other pending homework. I will collect the completed homework from every kid on Friday and I will correct those over weekends. I will return those corrected homework on Monday class. Please make sure to keep these homework in a homework folder.

2. Scholar's Mate offence and defense practice. Please show them these picture of scholar's mate again. I want them to understand the concept thoroughly.

Today we have completed the following:

En Passant, Castling, Castling notations, Rook(R)+Rook(R)+King(K) vs king (K) Checkmate , Line of doom. We also practiced the above subjects on board.

Please note that learning chess is a turtle process. For few kids it will take sometime to mastery these concepts. Towards ends of the session I will again go over these key concepts for the kids who still have doubts. They will learn it as long as they are doing homework and paying attention in class.

Homework:

Rook+Rook vs King only.

Kids who still didn't complete last class homework please try to finish those as well.

Please note: if kids have any questions on homework then please see me at the end of the class.

Thanks

Homework November 4th 2013

Today we completed the following:

Details about Rook, Bishop, King, Queen, Knight, Pawn, Check, Checkmate, Stalemate and how   to get away from check.
We also did various exercises and puzzles on chess.

Homework:

All the remaining sheets (Rooks, Bishop, King, Queen, Knight, Pawn, Check, Checkmate, Stalemate)

On one puzzle kids still had doubt. I would request you to show them again the following one.

There are few ways to get out of check but the best way is (Bd1 - f3+! that will force Qf8xf3 ...)

1. Bishop on d1 to f3 that gives check to Black King.
2. Black Queen on f8 has no other option but to capture the Bishop on f3
3. Rook on a3 captures Black queen on f3.

The other possibility like Moving white rook from a3 to f3 and IF queen f8 captures the white rook on f3 then Bishop on d1 can capture black queen and that will result in checkmate. Please note that an expert black side player will never capture rook at f3. Please explain this concept to your child.
